A Note From Greg

Happy New Year!

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your strength. And love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37 New Year’s Resolutions: A time for new beginnings and a time we can reinvent ourselves. Maybe one of the things we should strive for this new year is to know God better. There is no doubt we all would love to know Him better. We would all like to know that we are walking in the center of His will. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.” If we trust Him with all of our heart, he will direct our paths.” But what does it mean to trust? We all trust God. We trust Him for our salvation. We trust Him to handle our day in and day out routines. It has to be more than just trust. That trust has to come with a relationship, not just a salvation relationship but a daily relationship. In Matthew 6 Jesus said, Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness. THEN all these things will be added unto you. “These things” that Jesus is talking about are things we deal with all the time like food, shelter and clothing. The first part of the chapter is talking about giving to the needy, then prayer and fasting. Then Jesus talks about our priorities. He says, “ Do not store up for yourself treasures on Earth….But store for yourselves treasures in heaven… for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

I think we spend a whole lot of time running after things that in the end don’t matter. What priorities are we teaching our children and grandchildren. Are we teaching them to Love the Lord their God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength? Are we teaching them to love their neighbor as themselves? Are we regularly reading the Bible with them? Do we pray with them every day? Is attending church a priority? Do we serve others? I once saw a poster that read, “Are we the type of Christian that we hope our children turn out to be?” We can’t expect our children to have church as a priority, if we regularly miss church. We can’t expect our children to love the Word of God, if we never read it with them. We can’t expect our children to have any kind of relationship with Him if we don’t show that to them.

None of this is new information. They are words we have heard a thousand times. It is all things that we know we should be doing. But, this is a new year with new beginnings. A time when we say, “I want my family to know God better.” Your church staff is praying that this new year will be amazing. That we will see God’s work in a miraculous way in our church and in our church family. It is going to be a great year! Seek Ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness. Then ALL these things will be added unto
you.
