ABOUT

History

Eastern Hills began as an outreach ministry of Capitol Heights Baptist Church in the late 1950s with a small group of people meeting in a tent. They met together on top of this same hill with a vision of reaching the Forest Hills community and then all Montgomery with a message of the love from their Lord — and ours.

The current sanctuary was built in the early 1960's. The church had grown from a fledgling mission to one of the largest churches in Montgomery. As church membership grew, so did the church's ministries and building space. In the 1970s and 1980s the Christian Life Center was built and the original sanctuary/fellowship hall was remodeled into needed educational space.

In the 1980s, Eastern Hills extended its outreach ministry. Recognizing a need for a church in another rapidly developing east Montgomery area, the church sponsored Taylor Road Baptist Mission. The Church also responded to the community's need for Christian day care by adding a complete day care and a before and after school program.

Additions to the church's physical plant continued into the 1990s and the Share the Vision capital campaign is seeing to current expansion needs while its numerous funded projects are underway today.

Throughout its history, Eastern Hills has been blessed with excellent leadership. In 1994, Dr. L. Rick Marshall was called as pastor. Additionally, the church is led by Rev. Ricky Solar, associate pastor for education and Families. Rev. Greg Gosselin is minister to children, Rev. Mark McLendon is minister of students and activities, and Rev. Keith Pate is minister of music.

Location

Eastern Hills is located at the corner of Pleasant Ridge Road and Green Ridge Road in the Forest Hills neighborhood south of the Atlanta Highway, west of Perry Hill Road and north of Harrison Road. The church also operates one of the largest and finest church-based children's day care facilities in central Alabama.

Affiliations

Eastern Hills Baptist Church is an affiliate of the Southern Baptist Convention, based in Nashville, TN.

The term "Southern Baptist Convention" refers to both the denomination and its annual meeting. Working through 1,200 local associations and 41 state conventions and fellowships, Southern Baptists share a common bond of basic Biblical beliefs and a commitment to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire world.

You become a Southern Baptist by uniting with a Southern Baptist church, one in friendly cooperation with the general Southern Baptist enterprise of reaching the world for Christ. Typically church membership is a matter of accepting Jesus as your Savior and Lord and experiencing believer's baptism by immersion.
