A God-Sized Victory

As I mentioned in worship a couple of weeks ago I have been reading a book by Mark Batterson entitled "All In." It's a challenging book rich in spiritual insights. In chapter 9 of his book, Batterson contrasts the daring nature of Jonathan with that of his father, King Saul, as recorded in I Samuel 14. The Israelites were once again facing their long-time foe, the Philistines who had an army that heavily outnumbered them. Saul was poised under a pomegranate tree meeting with his advisers — … [Read more...]

Satan – The Great Peace Robber

Last week our youth choir was on tour in Kentucky. What a wonderful week! From the first night's concert at Teen Challenge in Chattanooga to the last day's life lessons we were learning on our return I sensed we had prayer warriors at home lifting us up each day. Thank you to so many who committed to pray. We certainly felt it. God's spirit worked in the lives of our young people throughout the week as well as in the lives of those we ministered to. He especially made His presence felt … [Read more...]

Draw Me Nearer

The song "Draw Me Nearer" has been on my mind a lot as the youth choir has been preparing for choir tour. Let my soul look up with a steady hope and my will be lost in Thine. CHORUS: Draw me nearer, … [Read more...]

God is our Refuge

Last week was the wedding of our daughter, Bethany. The days leading up to the wedding were stressful and filled with preparations. It was an exciting time but a very tiring/anxious time as well. Often the tiredness and tension of preparations were all consuming. Knowing that God was our provider through this time gave peace in an otherwise overwhelming situation. The day of the wedding we saw the fruits of our labor come to fruition. Knowing that God is our refuge was key to our “peace” through … [Read more...]

Stand Firm in Him!

Wow!  I'm awed by what God does in corporate worship! Of course God uses individuals to draw our attention towards Him in worship, but true Worship only occurs when we encounter the tug of His Spirit on our hearts. Still again it's more than that. It's more than a feeling or an emotion, although our emotions play a part. It's emotion only, if we come together to only have a good "cry" or exciting  "pep rally" and then go home unchanged. If worship is merely a head thing or intellect only, it … [Read more...]
